Postnatal Circle with Clare Proudfoot (bring your baby, or not!)

A postnatal circle is a baby-friendly space to gather with other mothers, take some deeper breaths, be guided through some gentle stretches and share in the full spectrum experience of being a new mother. As an end of year gathering the theme for this circle will be reflecting on your motherhood experience in 20204, the highs, the lows and everything in between.

What is a circle?

A circle is an intentional and judgement free held space to gather as a group, reflect on your experience, share if you’d like and foster a deeper sense of togetherness.

Why gather in circle?

Sharing stories reminds us of our connectedness. Sitting in community reminds us that we’re part of something bigger. In what can so often be an isolating and intensive time, circle is an opportunity honour what feels true and reconnect to a sense of shared experience in the postnatal period. It’s a powerful thing to hear someone speak and think ‘I feel that too’.

What to expect

  • We’ll all gather in a circle on the floor (supported by bolsters and blankets)

  • You’ll be led through a simple sequence of slow stretches to release some tension and feel a bit more grounded in your body

  • A check-in question will be offered as a really gentle introduction to sharing

  • The circle is then open for anyone who wants to share a high, a challenge or a theme that feels current (there’s absolutely no expectation to share if you’d rather listen)

  • As the circle closes there will be time to chat within the space and drink some tea before a slow exit

Who is it for?

Anyone who feels called to be part of a postnatal community-focused space. New mothers and mothers of second, third, fourth etc. babies are welcome!

What you’ll need

All props will be provided; you may like to bring a blanket for your baby to lie on and some toys. There’s no need to prepare anything to say, no expectation to share and no perfect way of sharing. Crawling babies along with babes in arms are welcome! Equally you don’t have to bring your baby. This is an open, baby-friendly space. You’ll be able to feed, rock, change and walk around with your baby as you would at home. Tea and biscuits will be provided!
