Quiet Tuning with Ashley Handel

Like the violin, guitar, or piano, our bodies are poetic instruments that benefit from gentle and periodic “tuning”. In this workshop we’ll explore the major checkpoints of the body- feet, knees, pelvis/hips, ribcage, shoulders, neck/skull and spine. In each area, we will isolate the movement of the joints, activate the muscles surrounding these joints, and integrate the movement of each joint area with that above and below it. Our aim is to bring greater awareness and capacity to each of these areas, connecting our brains to our bodies so that we can move with pleasurable ease. Once we’ve explored each area on its own, we’ll then move the whole body in a seamless, energising flow. We’ll finish with a seated meditation and light vocal sounding, using the vibration of the voice to stimulate the vagus nerve and invite relaxation. Quiet tuning is a celebration of the intricate complexity of being in a body and all that becomes available to us when we pay careful attention to it.
