Yoga for Feeling Even Stronger: a six-week course with Simran Uppal

This course is two things: first, a friendly, accessible space for everyone – total beginners and advanced practitioners alike – to meet some strength-building yoga poses, flows, and transitions, and be really well supported in playing with them. We’ll take a relaxed, open approach, trying to make the body feel good, and celebrating joyful, intuitive movement, rather than ‘achieving’ poses. There’ll be opportunity to build liberating foundations of strength and mobility, and bring some fresh new elements to your yoga practice.

Second, it’s a space for exploring what it feels like to feel strong in the body – whatever your yoga practice might or might not look like. What would it feel like to spend an hour or so a week just trying to befriend that feeling, of the feet or hands or legs strong against the ground and spine tall and strong and all the body, whatever it can or can’t do, remembering its birthright of feeling strong? If you want to move slow and gentle, build a soft experience of stability and integrity through the joints and the muscles, there’ll be space for that. If you want to focus 110%, get sweaty, and push your edges, there’ll be space for that. If you want to play about a bit, like little kids let loose on a gymnastics floor, and experience a beautiful, strong, creative yoga practice along the way – there’ll be space for that.

We’ll end each practice with rest, to soak in and savour that feeling of strength and joy in the body, and to look after ourselves deeply! Yoga nidra will come give us a hug – an easy, dreamy, lush rest practice, where you lay on the ground supported by a thousand bolsters and blankets, and are gently guided to soften into a deep, nourishing meditative state, without really trying at all.
